UC-Davis honors former seed company exec
Gabe Patin, a former seed industry executive, has received the Award of Distinction by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California-Davis.
Patin was president of Sakata Seed Co. in the early 1990s. He helped to create the Seed Biotechnology Center at UC-Davis, spearheading the campaign to raise money for its creation. He received the award Oct. 6, according to a news release.
“Gabe was instrumental in convincing his colleagues in the seed industry to make this investment in their own future,” Kent Bradford, director of the Seed Biotechnology Center, and a professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at UC-Davis, said in the release. “It was his convincing arguments that this was not charity but rather an investment that would repay major returns.”
Patin has served on the advisory council for the Seed Biotechnology Center.
Awards of Distinction are presented every year to people whose contributions and achievements enhance the college’s ability to provide research, top-notch education and innovative outreach.
