Sonoco highlights produce packaging at Fresh Summit

Sonoco, which recently acquired Clear Lam Packaging Inc  and Peninsula Packaging, is featuring an array of produce packaging at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit expo Oct. 20-21.

The acquisitions have expanded the company’s product line for produce, which now includes flexible pouches, peel/seal lidding and rigid plastic trays and containers. According to a news release, produce packaging is designed for fresh-cut, salads and snack packs.

“The perimeter of the store continues to experience solid growth as consumers are drawn to more fresh and natural options, with produce being the significant driver,” Sonoco executive vice president and chief operating officer Rob Tiede said in the release. “This growth is accelerating the need for brands to offer more convenience, on-the-go options that are easy to store, consume and dispose.”

Teide said packaging has a major role in reducing food waste, a hot topic with consumers.

Sonoco is highlighting the SmartSeal peel-and-reseal lidded packaging for fresh produce, according to the release.

The company will be exhibiting the products at booth Nos. 5820 (Clear Lam) and 4526 (Sonoco).
