Red Sun Farms presented Make-A-Wish Southwest Ontario with a $5,720 donation Dec. 15.

A group of the Kingsville, Ontario greenhouse grower’s employees were wanting to give back to the community while also promoting healthy lifestyles, according to a news release.

They came up with the idea of offering all employees boxes full of Red Sun produce for $5 a box, with all the money going to Make-A-Wish, a nonprofit organization devoted to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Jim DiMenna, Red Sun Farms’ president added his own contribution to the effort: “The Make-A-Wish Foundation does so much, for so many communities, I thought it was only right that I match every dollar raised,” he said in the release.

Since starting, the project has resulted in more than 570 boxes of produce sold.
