Dutch breeder develops mini watermelon
Netherlands-based seed company Hazera Seed BV has developed a mini watermelon in partnership with Ireland-based Total Produce and Agricola Famosa Brazil.
Lynx F1, the new variety, produces melons of about 4.5 pounds with crunchy flesh, excellent flavor and good shelf life, according to the release.
“Agricola Famosa Brazil is growing and packing the variety and making sure it is produced and shipped properly to the Netherlands.
Total Produce, as key supply chain specialist, is making sure the variety is not just distributed to the supermarkets, as it comes with a clear message resulting in a growing demand by the consumers,” Mark van der Zouwen, global product manager for Hazera, said in the release.
The company plans to discuss the new variety Feb. 7-9 at Fruit Logistica in Berlin at booth C-17 in hall 3.2, according to the release.
