Dole’s slaw kits get Slawesome!
Dole plans to launch a new coleslaw line — Slawesome! Kits — in April.
As foodservice operators increase their use of slaws, the company expects shoppers to look to do likewise.
“The popularity of ‘topping’ a food with a slaw is showing up on virtually every restaurant menu, from white tablecloth to fast casual,” said Bil Goldfield, director of corporate communications for Westlake Village, Calif.-based Dole. “We foresee favorite uses that make Slawesomes the star of the plate, including the new Sweet Apple Slawesome on a pulled chicken sandwich, or the new Fiesta Lime Slawesome as a bed for a skewer of vegetables.
“The Mango Sriracha Slawesome goes well with chicken strips, and the Smoky BBQ pairs nicely with a portobello burger,” Goldfield said.
The company has received good early feedback on the kits.
“Response has been very positive from both our retail partners and consumers who have tried the new Slawesome Kits,” Goldfield said. “The versatility of the Kits (to be used as a topper or as a side dish) makes them more of a year-round product line than current coleslaws. The flavors were specifically chosen to complement a variety of foods, both vegetarian and meat protein.”
