Crystal Valley offers Florida blueberries this season
Crystal Valley Foods is shipping organic and conventional blueberries from Florida under the Crystal Valley label this year.
The first shipments will begin at the end of March and they’ll be available through May, according to a news release.
“We are excited to be able to offer our customers domestic blueberries this year and we are especially looking forward to kicking it off with fresh Florida blueberries,” Katiana Valdes, director of marketing for the Miami company, in a news release. “Not only will it be a strong Florida season, but we are also proud to be promoting Florida grown produce as it is our home state.”
A Hawthorne, Fla., grower-packer has an exclusive agreement to supply Crystal Valley blueberries, according to the release. Weather in the region has been “conducive to good volume and good quality,” according to the release.
About 20% of the Crystal Valley blueberries will be organic.
The company purchased Team Produce last year, allowing it to enter the berry category, according to the release. Imported berries arrive from September through April, and the addition of Florida blueberries is a step to year-round blueberry availability.
The Florida blueberries will come in 6-ounce containers for conventional and organic.
