        , a first-of-its-kind international event that seeks to gather every segment of the U.S. avocado supply chain. The inaugural event is set for Nov.18-20, 2026, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“We just had our biggest year in terms of volume coming here to the United States and being produced here. And as avocados continue to grow and continue to be an incredible category for our industry — driving tremendous value for the produce department — it’s so important to have alignment among producers, handlers, exporters, importers, retailers and the entire industry,” Escobedo says. “That’s where we see The Avocado Conference playing a critical role in ensuring that our industry is going to continue to grow and that it is going to continue to add value to the entire sector.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Avocado Conference aims to deliver a forward-looking agenda examining global avocado production and trade, retail and foodservice market insights from Circana and Dataessential, consumer and shopper trends, evolving avocado marketing programs and broader economic and investment dynamics impacting the marketplace.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“The U.S. market is the No. 1 market in the world for avocados. More avocados are sold and consumed here in the United States than any other market in the world. And it’s the market that every country that produces avocados wants to be in,” Escobedo says. “The purpose of The Avocado Conference is to help build our industry, to collaborate, share insights and accelerate sustainable growth here in the United States, and build that demand with all of the countries that supply avocados to the U.S.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The international conference is poised to gather avocado industry professionals from around the world and across the supply chain.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“The reason this conference is so important is because it’s a first-of-its-kind international gathering for the entire U.S. avocado value chain,” he says. “Whether they’re coming from established areas like Mexico and Peru or new entrants like Colombia and other new countries as they are allowed in the United States, we want everyone to be part of it.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The conference will also provide a collective of the latest consumer research from the Hass Avocado Board and other industry organizations with the goal of driving demand and identifying new opportunities for growth.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“When you attend the conference, you’re going to be able to understand not just what is happening on the market side with consumers, with new consumers and new demographics, but also how the industry is planning to support the whole value chain to meet those consumers’ needs,” Escobedo says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Avocado Conference will also offer important insights for retail and foodservice professionals, he says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“As a retailer attending this conference, you’re going to learn from the Hass Avocado Board, Circana and Dataessential how consumers are shopping, what’s driving consumer purchase, what the impact of consumers buying an avocado has on the overall basket, but we also want to create an opportunity for retailers to talk to our industry and to our growers and exporters, so that there’s alignment.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“One of the challenges we have faced as an industry is the lack of alignment between the production that’s available to support large-scale promotions across the United States and the retailers’ understanding of that,” he continues. “Retailers attending the conference will get to hear firsthand from the producers themselves on what is happening on the ground and what they can expect in terms of volume for the season to come. That’s going to help retailers plan.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The program will be equally relevant to grower-packer-shippers and exporters, he says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“The overall goal of The Avocado Conference is to align on demand signals and operational practices to support profitable and sustainable growth,” Escobedo says. “And we want everybody to come, not just California producers; we want producers from Mexico, from Peru, from Chile, from Colombia, from Dominican Republic as well as packers and exporters for foodservice and retail leaders — everyone is welcome.”&lt;br&gt;

        Visitors to the GS1 US booth had a chance to try their luck at answering questions to win prizes. Questions included “What is FSMA 204?” and “Who is GS1?” with the intention of keeping the conversation going with FSMA 204 preparations. While 2028 seems like a while away, Liz Sertl, senior director of supply chain visibility at GS1 US, says now is a good time to begin the compliance journey.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“Organizations should be thinking about getting started, not just with preparing for the regulation but [also] leveraging the benefits of the regulation, including food safety, food recall, inventory management, food waste and good master data,” Sertl says. “It’s not hard to get started. It’s just taking that first step [toward compliance].”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;Sol-ti debuted two new products, its Electroboost+ and its Mindboost+ SuperShots. Mindboost+ offers 50 milligrams of caffeine through ceremonial-grade matcha and contains lion’s mane and ashwagandha. As hydration becomes more of a focus for consumers, Ryan Cooper, director of sales at Sol-ti, says the new Electroboost with electrolytes is a perfect fit for those consumers focused on effective hydration.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Cooper also says Sol-ti focuses on “getting away from single-use plastics.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;After unveiling the Grimmway Produce Group last year, which includes Grimmway Farms, Cal-Organic Farms, Bunny-Luv, Tasteful Selections, San Miguel Produce and RPE Inc. under one umbrella company, David Verdrager, director of business development for foodservice and export sales with Grimmway Produce Group, says the feedback has been positive. He says he had good conversations at East Coast Produce Expo with buyers.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“In the age of consolidation, more and more buyers are looking for convenience,” he says. “Less stops for trucks and anything to simplify their side of the business.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;Tara Murray, vice president of marketing for Fresh Innovations/Yo Quiero Brands, says she loved that East Coast Produce Expo unveiled the latest Fresh Trends data at the show. She says the presentation from Jennifer Strailey, editorial director for The Packer, left her wanting more.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Fresh Trends 2026 report looked at how men outspend women in many produce categories, and Murray says she already wants to see a side-by-side comparison of male shoppers of different generations to better understand their behavior.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“It is more interesting that what we do in CPG focuses more on female-centric marketing,” she says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        While many retailers had bright and colorful displays for Valentine’s Day or Lunar New Year, PennRose Farms showcased it’s redesigned St. Patrick’s Day displays and 5-pound cabbage boxes for its Blue Ribbon brand cabbage.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“We have 10% of the market share on cabbage,” says Tyler Hiriak, sales executive with PennRose Farms.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Hiriak says the company debuted the redesigned cabbage boxes last year and had positive feedback from the retailers who used the promotional booking.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“Retailers who utilized the promotion last year want to re-up because they saw a lift,” he says. “[Cabbage] is affordable and fills up a shopping basket.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Hiriak says, while at East Coast Produce Expo, retailers wanted to discuss organic produce availability as the category continues to grow. He says PennRose has seen double-digit growth in the category, and retailers wanted to discuss the surety of supply as it builds out its 52-week program.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;At its East Coast Produce Expo Booth, Farm Direct Supply celebrated the first anniversary of its Tropiful brand.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“We have enjoyed building the brand,” says Matt Houmes, produce specialist with Farm Direct Supply. “It’s an energetic and vibrant brand.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Houmes says what’s great about the Tropiful, which includes the company’s red dragon fruit, yellow dragon fruit, rambutan and pink dragon fruit, is that retailers can build out a customizable program for stores that is easy to execute.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“We can create a program for retail and combine it in an eye-catching display,” Houmes says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;Conversations at the Fox Packaging booth focused on stock programs and private-label packaging.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“Consistent support and consistent participation [of industry events] is important to learn what’s happening in the industry to keep our customers informed,” says Victoria Lopez, marketing and business development manager for Fox Packaging.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Lopez says there’s been some new developments, such as state regulations on EPR (extended producer responsibility), and Fox Packaging helps its customers understand the implications of those regulations.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Booth visitors also wanted to learn about how produce businesses can better utilize the labor on hand and become more efficient with automation, Lopez says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        &lt;br&gt;First-time exhibitor Twang has been in the flavoring salts business for 40 years but is a relative newcomer to the produce department. The company showcased its bold flavoring salts in seven varieties including Dill Pickle, Zesty Lime, Classic Chamoy, Lemon Lime, Mango Chile, Chile Lime, and Tangy Tamarind.         &lt;br&gt;HLB Specialties featured its peeled, polished and refrigerated Drinking Coconuts from Costa Rica and Tap &amp;amp; Sip Fresh Coconut Water from Vietnam — items HLB’s Melissa Hartmann De Barros says have gone viral.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Each Drinking Coconut contains between 10-14 ounces of coconut water and comes with its own sustainable straw. It also has a laser-etched arrow pointing to the opening for ease of use. The coconut meat is also edible.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The four-pack compostable packaging lists the health attributes of coconut water including hydration, electrolytes, being a good source of potassium, and it serves as a natural diuretic.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“It’s like a sports drink but natural,” says Hartmann De Barros.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Transit time from Costa Rica to the U.S. for the Drinking Coconuts is only four days, ensuring the coconuts are fresh in the year-round program.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;HLB’s Tap &amp;amp; Sip Coconuts from Vietnam are shipped weekly to the West Coast and distributed throughout the U.S. Each coconut contains about 1.5 cups of pure coconut water. The packaging details how to open the coconut to enjoy the water.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;HLB also showed off what it calls “niche exotics” including lychee, rambutan and three different varieties of dragon fruit. The exotics come in a variety of seasonal packages celebrating everything from Lunar New Year to Halloween.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        Giumarra Companies sampled the astonishingly large and incredibly delicious Jumbo SugarWild Blackberries, available from September through February in 9.8-ounce clamshells.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“It’s a special variety grown in Mexico and we have the exclusive,” says Kellee Harris. “We’ll have more volume next year.”&lt;br&gt;Harris also showed off Giumarra’s Lemonade Apples, a North American exclusive for the company. Developed by a breeding program in New Zealand, the golden-yellow apples with a crisp texture and tangy flavor are a cross between a gala and a Braeburn.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Packer asked Harris what she thinks makes for a successful produce brand with staying power.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“One thing I learned with DulceVida [nectarines], is that we need to have our own name, an exclusive, be different, and it has to pop in the package,” she says. Dynamic display bins with tips for how to use the product also support the brand, she adds.&lt;br&gt;

To be held Jan. 12-13 at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort &amp;amp; Spa, this is the first major fresh produce trade event of the year.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Heather Sterrett, director of events and expos for Farm Journal, joins “The Packer Podcast” for a special episode to preview the event.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“It’s a nice way to kick off the year and just start,” Sterrett says. “Who doesn’t love going to Florida for a couple of days in January when you’re someplace cold? It’s a good way to start off the year and a nice warm destination.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;

        The event kicks off with a pickleball tournament, golf tournament, a poolside event and a tour of Little Havana in Miami.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“It will be super exciting go down into Miami and little Havana and get a tour of some really cool restaurants and places and get some food samples,” she says. “We also added pickleball, so if you’re not a golfer but do want to do some type of activity physical activity, you can do the pickleball tournament.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Chair massages and networking will be key highlights of the Produce Pool Day.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;
    
        &lt;h3&gt;The Olympic-Themed Opening Reception and Keynote&lt;/h3&gt;
    
        &lt;br&gt;And the official opening ceremonies of East Coast Produce Expo kicks off with the Opening Reception. Known for its fun themes, this is not to be missed. Sterrett encourages attendees to come dressed in attire fit for an opening ceremony. There will be pineapple bowling, curling and, of course, other special surprises.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“We’re going to do a USA Olympics theme and that ties into our keynote speaker, who will be speaking on Tuesday morning: Dominique Dawes, who is a former Olympic gymnast. She’ll be speaking Tuesday, so wear your red, white and blue and come all decked out in USA Olympic attire on Monday.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Dawes will close out the education sessions and presentation with her talk “Success is a journey, not a destination.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“She will do photos afterwards too, so if you want to get your photo with an Olympic gymnast, you’ll have that opportunity,” Sterrett says.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Want to register?       <title>The Packer’s West Coast Produce Expo rescheduled to November</title>

         has a new date and format to provide streaming and digital content to complement the Palm Desert, Calif., event. with an expo that encourages social distancing.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The West Coast Produce Expo will be Nov. 13-14 at its original venue, the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa in Palm Desert.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“Direct conversations with the partners and stakeholders that make our West Coast Produce Expo possible indicated that postponing the show to November will not only allow more companies and buyers to participate, but also put many people at ease about traveling at this time,” said Matt Morgan, executive vice president of produce for Farm Journal.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“Our research showed that more than 80% of registered buyers surveyed were in favor of rescheduling the event, which told us it was the right thing to do,” Morgan said. “With these changes in place, we expect this year’s event to be possibly the largest on record.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The event kicks off with a golf tournament Nov. 13, at the Desert Springs Golf Course.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The West Coast Produce Expo will incorporate virtual networking opportunities and digital extensions of keynote presentations and roundtables that will extend the energy from Palm Desert across the country. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Expo booths will be throughout the resort with the potential for exhibits to be inside and outside, with sanitation stations and distancing guidelines a priority.&lt;br&gt;Safety measures include:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Distancing guidelines recommended by Marriott Hotels;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Built-in social distancing measures during the golf tournament; &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;One-on-one and small group networking sessions will be optional instead larger in-person receptions; and &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Hand washing and sanitation stations throughout the resort.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;Attendee registrations for the show will be honored and hotel room rates will remain the same.         growers, is continuing its investigation into the dumping of Mexican tomatoes into the U.S.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;At the same time, the department issued a decision to set a dumping margin of 21% in the resumed investigation, according to the 
    
        &lt;span class="LinkEnhancement"&gt;&lt;a class="Link" href="https://www.producemarketguide.com/company/400095/florida-tomato-committeeflorida-tomato-exchange" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;Florida Tomato Exchange&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;
    
        .&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Sept. 19 agreement signed by the Commerce Department and Mexican tomato growers remains “in force” pending a decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission and no antidumping duties will be imposed by the Commerce Department Oct. 21 decision, according to a news release from the department.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;“At the request of domestic producers, the department is completing the investigation into imports of Mexican fresh tomatoes,” Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said in the release. “Now it is up to the International Trade Commission to determine whether dumped imports harm the American tomato industry – and whether, as a consequence, the suspension agreement will remain in place.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;When a suspension agreement is in place, “interested parties” can ask the Commerce Department to restart the suspended antidumping investigation, according to the department, as the Florida Tomato Exchange did on Oct. 11, according to the release. Red Sun Farms submitted its own request on Oct. 15.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Commerce Department is directing Customs and Border Protection “to lift suspension of liquidation and to return importers’ cash deposits,” the 17.56% duty Mexican tomato imports following the department’s May decision to drop the suspension agreement.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The International Trade Commission will have a hearing on Oct. 24 to evaluate the extent to which dumped tomatoes affected U.S. growers, according to a Florida Tomato Exchange release. Commerce’s final dumping margin of 21%, according to the tomato exchange, “comes as no surprise to American tomato farmers who have seen domestic production decline significantly in the face of unfairly traded Mexican imports.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The U.S. tomato industry welcomes its opportunity to present its case to the International Trade Commission, according to the tomato exchange release.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Related stories:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;
