California Giant raises $30,000 for donations
California Giant Berry Farms held its 10th annual summer barbeque, serving 650 pounds of skirt steak to more than 1,000 people.
Garlic bread, salad, fruit, and homemade dessert complemented the steak, according to a press release.
The barbeque cost guests $12 and serves as a fundraiser for local charities. Much of the food was donated, with Dole, Watsonville Coast Produce and Custom Produce contributing to the menu and Community Tree Service providing firewood.
"We are all humbled by just how supportive the community of Watsonville is when 1,000 people all take the time to share in the opportunity to give back," said Bill Moncovich, CEO and president of California Giant, in the release.
The $30,000 that the event raised was donated evenly among these charitable organizations:
- CASA of Santa Cruz County
- Digital Nest
- Grind out Hunger
- Jacob's Heart
- Monarch Services
- Pajaro Valley Shelter Services
