California Table Grapes awards grants
The California Table Grape Commission awarded $35,000 worth of grants to schools in California's San Joaquin and Coachella valleys through the Innovation in Teaching Education Grant Program.
"The education grant program is one of the ways table grape growers in California give back to communities in which they live and work," Kathleen Nave, president of the commission, said in a news release.
Given out in 56 allotments of up to $750, the grants were awarded to educators who submitted innovative teaching ideas for projects that will be completed this spring.
Some of the winning submissions listed on the website included investigating the history of grapes while growing their own vines, and designing and building miniature wind turbine prototypes to generate power. Other winning projects will create student art and program robotics.
