Lipman provides school supplies for 1,200 southwest Florida children
Lipman Family Farms has helped some of southwest Florida's needy children by giving them school supplies.
On Aug. 6, the Immokalee, Fla.-based grower-shipper distributed more than 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies to Immokalee grade school and junior high school students.
Up to 30 local nonprofit organizations participated in Lipman's 5th annual free community event.
The groups offered the children free haircuts, a bicycle giveaway, free food and entertainment.
In April, Lipman collected funds for the backpacks and supplies through its "Run for Backpacks 5K" and Junior Fun Run.
Lipman also provides scholarships and a textbook reimbursement program to Collier and Lee County high school and college students.
"We look forward to our backpack distribution event every year because it has a huge impact on children and families right here in our community," Jaime Weisinger, Lipman's community relations director and board chairman for Lipman Family Foundation, said in a news release.. "Encouraging education is very important to us, and we hope to continue this program and serve even more children in the coming years."
