Rubio anticipates conclusion of Mexican tomato investigation
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement Aug. 8 regarding the ongoing antidumping investigation on fresh tomatoes from Mexico.
U.S. tomato growers should not have to lose their livelihoods due to a deal imposed on them by their own government, Rubio said in a news release. He added the loss of livelihood is what was happening under the previous agreement.
“The fact remains that the Mexicans have avoided serious negotiations for well over a year, preferring to use scare tactics and inflammatory rhetoric to try to force President Trump and Secretary Ross to back down on their commitment to ensure that American tomato growers are able to fairly compete in our own domestic market,” Rubio said.
Rubio said if Mexican growers do not compromise to a mutually beneficial agreement, he looks forward to the issue to be resolved in September when U.S. trade law enforcement can reach a conclusion on what he says, “is clear and convincing evidence of produce dumping and injury.”
