Pinkglow pineapple makes its debut

The Pinkglow pineapple, grown by Del Monte Fresh Produce, is now available for purchase online.

Consumers interested in experiencing the “Jewel of the Jungle,” a trademarked phrase the company uses to describe the fruit, can do so through Melissa’s or Tropical Fruit Box. The Pinkglow is sweeter and juicier than the traditional pineapple, along with sporting an eye-catching pink interior, according to a news release.

“As a leading supplier of fresh pineapples throughout the world, Fresh Del Monte is committed to continuing to invest in our pineapple research and development program to meet the ever-changing needs of our consumers,” Pablo Rivero, vice president of marketing for North America for Fresh Del Monte, said in the release. “The Pinkglow pineapple is a product we are incredibly proud of, not only for its beautiful color and delicious taste, but also because of the care that went into growing and releasing it, as well as the sustainable method we’ve enacted to produce these new pink pineapples.”

The variety has been in development since 2005, is grown in Costa Rica and takes up to two years to produce. The crowns of Pinkglow pineapples are replanted “to increase the volume of crops and reduce waste,” per the release.

A sweepstakes promoting the launch of the Pinkglow will give one winner a virtual party for that person and nine friends; all 10 people will receive a free Pinkglow pineapple, mocktail gift set and a mocktail class from a mixologist. The sweepstakes ends Oct. 31.
