NSF International rolls out remote food safety training technology
As the COVID-19 pandemic separates inspectors from on-site duties, NSF International has demonstrated the ability to conduct food safety audits using smartglass technology.
NSF International, Ann Arbor, Mich., showcased Glass Enterprise Edition 2 wearable devices at its annual retail auditor conference. The company demonstrated how the devices, running on EyeSucceed software, can allow restaurant and grocery store audits remotely, according to a news release.
The technology will be implemented across NSF’s global retail team in 2020, assisting auditors in training, remote audits, food equipment audits and other functions.
“Through EyeSucceed and working with Google, we are implementing new technology that will innovate how auditing is performed by providing remote capabilities, training, calibration and future applications of artificial intelligence,” Jennifer Tong, senior managing director of global retail food safety at NSF International, said in the release. “This effort helps ensure food safety around the clock and across the globe.”
According to a recent study published in the Journal of Foodservice Management & Education, the new smartglass technology training platform expedites and positively affects food handler training and food safety, according to the release.
“By implementing (Google) Glass and the EyeSucceed solution more broadly across NSF, we will learn how to improve the technology and bring those improvements to the foodservice industry,” Tong said in the release.
