Ohio State forum focuses on food safety science, policy

The Center for Foodborne Illness Research and Prevention at The Ohio State University has scheduled a food safety forum.

The Nov. 14 event on “Translating Science into Policy and Practice: What are the food safety priorities?” is at the university’s Columbus campus, according to a news release.

It’s the first event for the center. The panel features:

  • Mindy Brashears, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s deputy under secretary for food safety at the Food Safety and Inspection Service;
  • David Goldman, the Food and Drug Administration’s chief medical officer at the Office of Food Policy and Response; and
  • Robert Tauxe, director of the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The forum will also feature information about the new center.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Ohioans to engage with high-ranking food safety officials while, at the same time, highlighting the food safety work being done here at Ohio State and across the Ohio food safety community,” Barbara Kowalcyk, the center’s director, said in the release.
