Eight organizations receive grants from United Fresh Start Foundation

The United Fresh Start Foundation has awarded a total of $53,000 to eight organizations through its 2020 Community Innovation Grants Program.

The program is designed to support initiatives that aim to increase children’s access to produce and the selection to which they have access.

“With this year’s grant cycle focused on making fresh produce more accessible in retail and foodservice environments, we were so impressed with the creative ways communities are making fresh fruits and vegetables the easy choice for kids and families, often in places they are already spending time or money,” Mollie Van Lieu, senior director of nutrition policy for the United Fresh Produce Association, said in the release. “We are excited to see the outcomes of these projects.”

The recipients of the grant funding are:

  • FoodShare South Carolina, Columbia, S.C.
  • Get Healthy Utah, Beaver County, Utah
  • Hands on Hartford, Hartford, Conn.
  • LA Food Policy Council, Los Angeles,
  • Roots for the Home Team, St. Paul, Minn.
  • The Food Trust, Philadelphia
  • Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Warren, Ohio
  • YMCA of Lansing, Lansing, Mich.
