Foodservice Conference guests invited to give back with Brighter Bites

(PMA)

Produce Marketing Association (PMA) and strategic partner,  Brighter Bites, have announced that all attendees registered to attend the PMA Foodservice Conference can also sign up to help give back to local families in a special Brighter Bites networking and volunteer experience.

Brighter Bites is a non-profit that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables to families while helping to instill long lasting healthy habits through fun and education.

“For anyone who will be in Monterey for the Foodservice Conference, I’d like to encourage them to sign up for the Brighter Bites volunteer experience,” said PMA’s Cathy Burns. “It’s one thing to hear PMA share the incredible work Brighter Bites does to in get fresh produce into the hands of families; it’s another to see this in action. I am looking forward to being part of this and hope many in our community will consider joining us.”

The experience will take place on Wednesday, July 21 from 9:30 – 1:30 p.m. (PDT) and will offer 40 volunteers an opportunity to play a part in the Brighter Bites program.  Volunteers will participate in onsite bagging, distribution, and the fun food program at La Gloria Elementary School.  It will be an opportunity to see firsthand the benefits of bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to local families’ hands.  All while networking with other Foodservice Conference attendees.

Transportation will be provided along with a box lunch for all volunteers. Any questions can be directed to Alicia Blanco at Alicia.blanco@brighterbites.org or (831)229-7999.

Participation is limited and volunteer slots will fill quickly. For those interested, volunteers must also be registered for PMA’s Foodservice Conference.

PMA and Brighter Bites have been strategic partners for years, joining in the effort to drive consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables while also helping to remove barriers to access.  Most recently, PMA featured Lisa Helfman, Founder and Board Chair of Brighter Bites, at the Growing a Healthier World Challenge kick-off event on April 19.

The event showcased leaders helping to provide healthy, affordable food to a growing world as a way to inspire others and raise awareness for how the role the produce industry plays in human nutrition, food security, and more.  The program challenged others to participate in the Growing a Healthier World Challenge in support of the UN’s International Year of Fruit and Vegetable initiative
