The United Fresh Start Foundation has scheduled a web seminar to help companies sell fresh produce to schools.

The seminar is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern Oct. 30. Companies that want to sell produce to schools or already do so, including grower-shippers and fresh-cut processors, are encouraged to participate, according to a news release.

Updated standards requiring schools to increase the amount and variety of fruits and vegetables was included in legislation the United Fresh Produce Association worked to ensure was passed.

“It’s been several years since school nutrition standards were updated to require additional offerings of fresh fruit and vegetables, but produce companies are still navigating how best to work with K-12 school customers,” Andrew Marshall, director of Foodservice & Foundation Partnerships for United Fresh, said in the release.

The web seminar address school meal portion sizes, how companies can benefit from understanding the USDA Food Buying Guide and how schools buy produce using the USDA Department of Defense Fresh Program.

Speakers include representatives from United Fresh and the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service.

The Foundation builds on United Fresh’s leadership in nutrition policy, supporting schools, communities, partnership and education that gives children the ability to choose fresh produce, according to the release.

To register for the web seminar, visit the United Fresh website. For more information, contact Marshall at amarshall@unitedfresh.org or 202-303-3407.
