Taylor Farms, Golden State Foods donate backpacks, supplies

Taylor Farms and Golden State Foods have provided backpacks filled with school supplies to every registered first grader at four elementary schools in Salinas, Calif.

The two organizations have partnered on the effort since 2010. Recipient schools are Roosevelt, Los Padres, Frank Paul and Alisal Community.

Taylor Farms employees fill the backpacks with supplies and participate in giveaway ceremonies at each school, according to a news release. More than 600 backpacks were distributed to the Salinas schools. To date, Taylor Farms has distributed more than 7,000 backpacks.

In addition to supporting local schools, Taylor Farms has expanded the back-to-school giving to include children of company employees.

"At Taylor Farms, we believe every student should have the opportunity to succeed," Bruce Taylor, chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms, said in the release. "Giving back through education is a way to secure a strong future for America."

"Taylor Farms is one of the key and long-standing partners of the GSF Foundation," Anna Lisa Biason, the foundation's executive director, said in a news release. "It's through our relationship that we are able to collectively make an impact on children and families in need."
