United Fresh names 2019 Family Business Scholarship winners

United Fresh Produce Association has announced three recipients of the 2019 Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarships.

The recipients are:

  • Richard Castaneda, project manager at Field Fresh Foods
  • Christopher Ferachi, operations analyst at Capitol City Produce
  • Kathy Sponheim, co-owner/sales at Michael Family Farms

The recipients receive airfare, hotel and registration to attend the United Fresh Washington Conference Sept. 16-18 in Washington D.C., according to the release.

“Each year, my sister Karen and I are honored to host the recipients of the Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarship at the United Fresh Washington Conference,” Jackie Caplan Wiggins, vice president and COO of Frieda’s, Inc., said in a news release. “The Washington Conference is the perfect destination for passionate professionals to learn about the industry and grow their leadership skills.”

At the conference, scholarship recipients will have an opportunity to network with industry leaders and gain an understanding of the political process and how to advocate for their issues, according to the release.
