Cal-Organic Farms, Bakersfield, Calif., is preparing to ship new crop yellow, red and white onions from the Coachella Valley in mid-May.

The Grimmway Farms division will ship the onions from its Lamont, Calif., facility. Harvest shifts to Kern County in late spring and then to Cuyama Valley in late summer, according to a news release. The three onion growing region allows it supply white onions through December, reds through February and yellow onions year-round.

"Growing conditions have been ideal this year and we're expecting a good crop," Bob Borda, vice president of organic sales at Grimmway Farms, said in the release. "While the desert experienced mild temperatures throughout the growing season, the overall condition and quality of our onion crop is excellent and we're looking forward to a great season."

Cal-Organic will have yellow onions in 2- and 3-pound retail packs, red onions in 3-pound retail packs, and all three varieties in 40-pound bulk cartons of medium, large, or jumbo onions, according to the release.

The company is shipping season sweet corn in bulk cartons through June.
