California table grape growers hear about research, promotions

California table grape grower-shippers recently met to discuss the latest research and trends, along with promotions for the next marketing year.

More than 150 industry members attended the annual California Table Grape Seminar on Feb. 27 in Fresno, according to a news release.

Research on grapes and improving table grape color development in the San Joaquin and Coachella valleys was presented by scientists for the California Table Grape Commission, University of California and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Other topics included using aerial multispectral imaging to help grow grapes, fungicide resistance to Botrytis cinereal in vineyards and an update on the USDA table grape breeding program.

Ross Jones, senior vice president of the commission, updated growers and shipper on improvement in production, and Kathleen Nave, commission president, gave an overview of next season’s promotion plans.
