Peru has been chosen to host the 2020 International Blueberry Organization Summit.

Every 1- to 1 1/2 years, the organization brings the global blueberry industry together to discuss common challenges and new opportunities, according to a news release from the Peruvian Blueberry Growers’ Association – ProArandanos. The Summit is scheduled to be in Trujillo, Peru.

Peru’s blueberry production has grown from small volumes a few years ago to 78,000 metric tons in 2018-19.

“We are delighted to invite the world’s blueberry community to the IBO Summit in Peru next August,” Robert Vargas, president of ProArandanos. “Trujillo is where the Peruvian blueberry industry began and where the greatest number of the country’s blueberry plantations are located.”

Peru’s blueberry expansion is setting it on a path to become the leading exporters of fresh blueberries, according to the reléase. Participants will visit area farms while there, Vargas said.

“The IBO encourages all global industry participants to put aside that week in the year to attend as the opportunity to gain industry knowledge, see the latest innovations and network with berry experts is second to none,” Peter McPherson, chairman of the International Blueberry Organization, said in the release.
