With a new California citrus season, Sunkist has new packaging, merchandising displays and promotion programs.

Sunkist has more than 40 varieties of citrus, according to a news release, with specialty varieties continuing to increase in popularity, from cara cara navels to blood oranges. The mandarin category alone has seen “unprecedented” growth, with Sunkist Delites shipping in early November with higher volumes after their 2017 entrance to the market.

“Specialty citrus is about education and experience for consumers,” Julie DeWolf, director of retail marketing, said in the release. “Sunkist has a wide array of retail marketing programs, including sampling, digital coupons, high-graphic secondary display bins and in-store point of sale materials that highlight flavor profiles, nutritional benefits and recipes to build awareness, drive trial and increase sales.”

Other specialty citrus available from Sunkist includes Sweetie and Melo Gold grapefruit, Satsuma mandarins, Zebra lemons, minneola tangelos, and royal and gold nugget mandarins.

Sunkist representatives will be discussing marketing programs for this season at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Oct. 19-20 in Orlando, Fla., at booth No. 2443. The booth features Sunkist’s new “We are Citrus” slogan.

Chef Jill Davie will conduct a live cooking demonstration, and Smoked Chicken and Citrus Flatbread and fresh-squeezed juices will be served to Fresh Summit attendees.
