Naturipe rings in Year of the Blueberry

Naturipe Farms, Salinas, Calif., is wishing consumers a Happy Blue Year in 2020, the Year of the Blueberry.

The berry company has a new year’s countdown on its Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/naturipe/

“We’ve celebrated blueberry’s color and flavor since we began growing blueberries over 85 years ago, so you can imagine our excitement when we saw that the blueberry was finally getting the attention it deserves,” CarrieAnn Arias, vice president of marketing, said in a news release. “We’re excited to amplify the blueberry’s classic blue palate and taste that we’ve always known and loved.”

Pantone has chosen its Classic Blue (19-4052) as Color of the Year and Firmenich, described as a Geneva, Switzerland-based “perfume and taste” company, has named “Classic Blueberry” as the flavor of the year.
Naturipe plans to make a “big announcement” in early January on Instagram, according to the release.

“We couldn’t agree more with Firmenich’s description of the blueberry as ‘timeless and enduring,’ and consumers certainly feel the same way,” Arias said in the release. “Blueberries have so much versatility, nutritional benefits, and burst of flavor.

“We’ve seen an increase in blueberry consumption in recent years and with growers across the world, we produce quality blueberries for consumers year-round to support this increase in demand,” she said in the release.
