Several web seminars focus on traceability in the wake of the Food and Drug Administration’s proposed traceability rules.

The FDA released its plan on Sept. 21, and it will be open for a public comment period until Jan. 21.

On Sept. 30, iFoodDecisionSciences (iFoodDS) has a web seminar on how effective traceability can enhance sales and become a source of profit, according to a news release.

The seminar will feature Minos Athanassiadis, iFoodDS vice president, and Beth Oleson, director of food safety and education for the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.
The web seminar will focus on:

  • The FDA’s endorsement of tech-enabled traceability systems in the New Era of Smarter Food Safety blueprint;
  • How tech-enabled traceability systems can better meet the needs of customers; and
  • How cloud-based software systems can improve food safety and quality programs.

The seminar starts at 11 a.m. Eastern Sept. 30. Registration is online.

The United Fresh Produce Association has two web seminars on traceability.

“Traceability is an important and wide-reaching topic of discussion within the fresh produce industry,” according to a news release from United Fresh on the two-part seminar. “All members of the supply chain must work together to address these complex issues.”

The united Fresh seminars are at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 5 and are an hour long.

On Oct. 27, speakers are Jennifer McEntire, senior vice president of food safety for the United Fresh Produce Association and Athanassiadis from iFoodDS. On Nov. 5, Katherine Vierk, director of the division of public health informatics and analytics at the FDA, is scheduled to speak.

More information on the seminars and registration is on the United Fresh website.
