Potato award nominations sought
It is again time to honor a well-deserving member of the potato growing community by nominating them for the Potato Man or Woman of the Year or Potato Man or Woman for All Seasons award.
The award is sponsored by The Packer in conjunction with the National Potato Council.
The award will be presented at the NPC’s 2021 annual meeting, scheduled for Feb. 22-26, which occurs in conjunction with the 2021 Potato D.C. Fly-In.
The 2019 award winner, recognized at the council’s annual banquet on Jan. 16, 2020, in Las Vegas, was a departure from tradition. The 2019 award recognized the entire National Potato Council executive search committee for their work in putting in place a new executive team that includes Kam Quarles, CEO, and Mike Wenkel, chief operations officer.
Previous long-time National Potato Council CEO John Keeling was awarded The Packer’s 2018 Potato Man for All Seasons.
The Potato Man/Woman of the Year recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty during 2020 to further the potato industry.
Award winners have devoted a significant amount of time promoting potatoes to consumers and representing the industry on trade missions and in front of regulatory agencies.
The Potato Man for All Seasons is a lifetime achievement award that recognizes individuals who have given freely of their time and energy to improve the well-being of the potato industry.
Send nominations by e-mail to Tom Karst, editor of The Packer, at tkarst@thepacker.com. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 20.
