Prince Edward Island touts its unique potato environment

The Prince Edward Island Potato Board used its virtual booth at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Expo to highlight the region’s advantages as a potato supplier.

“We use these shows as an opportunity to continue to position ourselves as sustainable, innovative growers of distinct PEI potatoes,” said Mark Phillips, marketing specialist for the board. “We are Canada’s smallest province, but we grow the most potatoes in Canada.”

The board, he said, continues to strategically market its potatoes  and also the region’s people and the place that grows them.

“We have over 97% family farms,” he said. “It is great to attend shows like this to show off what we have to offer, but also see the innovations and offerings of other areas.”
Phillips said Fresh Summit was worthwhile this year.

“It was great to get updates from around North America and beyond and get inspired by the challenges and subsequent solutions people are facing around the world,” he said. “While I miss interacting with colleagues and industry partners from around the world, I commend the staff and members of PMA for pivoting and offering this virtual program under such unique circumstances.”
