2022 U.S. fresh potato exports are up in value, down in volume
The value of U.S. fresh potato exports jumped 10% in the calendar year 2022 despite an 8% drop in volume, USDA statistics reveal.
Total U.S. fresh potato exports in 2022 tallied $303.2 million, up 10% from the $276.3 million exported in 2021.
The value of fresh potato exports gained big in Mexico, South Korea and the Philippines, trade data shows. Though the value of shipments to Canada dropped by double digits, the U.S. neighbor to the north still accounted for nearly one-third of the value of U.S. potato exports.
By volume, U.S. fresh potato exports were 549,533 metric tons in 2022, down 8% from 596,908 metric tons in 2021.
By country, here are the value of U.S. fresh potato exports in 2022, with the percentage change from 2021:
- Canada: $93.7 million, down 16%.
- Mexico: $87.2 million, up 45%.
- Japan: $21.5 million, down 15%.
- Taiwan: $18.5 million, up 6%.
- South Korea: $15.7 million, up 64%.
- Philippines: $11.9 million, up 77%.
- Honduras: $10.6 million, up 37%.
- Dominican Republic: $10.4 million, up 6%.
