A group that has been critical of Trump administration tariffs, and counter-tariffs from China  on U.S. exports, is sponsoring an April 26 event looking at how they affect California exports.

Farmers for Free Trade and the California Farm Bureau Federation is hosting the discussion, which features Karen Ross, secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and California Farm Bureau Federation president Jamie Johansson.

Others scheduled to speak news conference are:

  • Brian Kuehl, executive director of Farmers for Free Trade
  • Randy Lange, co-owner of LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards
  • Jeff Colombini, president of Lodi Farming Co.
  • Rob Neenan, president and CEO of the California League of Food Processors

The event is 11:30 a.m. Pacific April 26 at the LangeTwins winery, Acampo, Calif., near Sacramento.

The California exports in question include grapes, oranges, almonds and pistachios.

Ahead of the panel, Farmers for Free Trade released a report showing the expected economic effects of the counter tariffs China has proposed.

Besides specialty crop exporters, Farmers for Free Trade supporters include the National Farm Bureau Federation, the National Association of Wheat Growers, National Pork Producers Council and the National Corn Growers Association.
