Chilean blueberry production expected to rise
Chilean fresh blueberry exports are expected to increase 4% from last season to this season, reaching 115,000 tons.
New plantings have occurred the last few years for variety renewal, but has increased planted area and production, according to a news release.
Total production is predicted to reach about 160,000 tons, with 115,000 tons exported as fresh fruit, 41,000 tons going to the processed market and 4,000 tons for the domestic market, according to the release.
Lower winter chill hours and higher temperatures in August have put the blueberry crop ahead one week in development, according to the release.
The Chilean Blueberry Committee plans to release an updated forecast in early October to see how September weather conditions contribute to total export volume and harvest for the 2019-20 season, according to the release.
