The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an update that a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium traced to American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico, is over.
The outbreak sickened 113 people in 23 states and hospitalized 28. Of the 69 people the agencies interviewed, 56 — or 81% — reported eating or likely eating cucumbers, according to the announcement.
The FDA said epidemiologic and traceback information demonstrated that American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora were the source of illnesses in the outbreak. Several companies issued recalls for the products containing the cucumbers and the recalled product is past shelf life.
The FDA said its investigation is over.
