United Fresh: It’s time to talk about food safety commitment

“United Fresh is constantly working with industry partners and government agencies, collaborating to provide the most up-to-date information for our members to advance the needs of the fresh produce industry,” according to a United Fresh news release.

Events include:

Listeria Monocytogenes Intervention & Control Workshops, Sept. 11-12, Fresno, Calif., (register) and Sept. 13-14 in Monterey/Seaside, Calif. (register)

Déjà vu of Leafy Green Outbreaks: What We Know Today, web seminar, Aug. 23 (register).

Traceability: Is the Continued Criticism Warranted? Web seminar, Sept. 20 (register)

United Fresh also plans to discuss food safety issues at the group’s Washington Conference, Sept. 24-26 in Washington, D.C. In particular, the conference will look into recent outbreaks linked to romaine lettuce, and “the fundamental flaws in our local, state and federal systems,” according to a news release.

“It’s time to talk with Congress about a new commitment comparable to the National Transportation Safety Board investigating transportation accidents,” according to the release. “We’ll discuss the flaws in today’s system and what Congress needs to do about it.”
