Editor-in-chief Tom Karst, retail editor Ashley Nickle and Northeast editor Amy Sowder discuss the second day of PMA’s virtual conference and trade show, from the general and education sessions to new products and the show’s digital platform.

Here’s our recap from Day 1.

On Day 2, Karst covered the “A Look at the Effects of Politics on the Fresh Produce Industry” session, which featured five speakers and almost 670 attendees.

“There was a lot of good insight on what a Biden administration would look like, perhaps a more global approach,” Karst said, noting that there might be a little less seasonal protection for Southeast growers in this scenario.

Nickle covered the Produce Retailer of the Year Award, which went to Jeff Cady of Tops.

She also revealed a pretty innovative new product coming soon from Bolthouse Farms: a carrot dog.

And Sowder covered the general session, “Inspirational Ways to Grow a Healthier World,” with two awards, plus two innovative speakers who want to solve life-threatening problems for the world’s most vulnerable populations — while making a profit.
