FreshEdge, a regional distributor of customized fresh food solutions backed by Wind Point Partners has acquired Western Sky Produce, a fresh produce service provider headquartered in Salinas, Calif., according to a release.

Phil Gates and Wyatt Meiggs founded Western Sky in March 2020. The company said the two combined their industry experience and history of cultivating solid grower-shipper relationships to develop procurement solutions to help customers navigate the perishable supply chain effectively. Today, Western Sky specializes in creating customized programs that incorporate all aspects of the produce industry including procurement, distribution, logistics and consolidation.

Fresh Edge said adding Western Sky, operating near the Salinas Valley, will strengthen its consolidated procurement and buying capabilities.

“We strongly believe in the power of synergy and are eager to begin working alongside FreshEdge,” said Meiggs, president of Western Sky Produce. “Together, we will strive for increased efficiency, sustainable growth and seamless collaboration to drive innovation and success for our customers.”

Wind Point Partners purchased FreshEdge in October 2022, and said FreshEdge will continue its acquisition strategy of adding fresh food distribution companies.
