The Packer’s Tom Karst visited June 8 with Danny Dumas, the incoming chairman of the United Fresh Produce Association.

Dumas talked about his expectations for the United Fresh LiVE! show from June 15 to June 19 and also touched on his career transition.

United preview

Dumas said United Fresh LIVE! will offer attendees many benefits.

“I was privy to see a lot of demos on the virtual show that’s coming up for United, and I have to say it’s pretty amazing what United has been able to do in very, very little time,” he said. The interactive sessions, the “virtual” booths and other elements of the show will offer ample connection opportunities for vendors and buyers, he said.

“The great thing is you are going to be able to log in pretty much anytime you want, and that’s convenient for everyone,” he said. “I really look forward to big success for United this year.”

Career transition

Dumas, who most recently was senior vice president of North American sales, marketing and product management for Del Monte Fresh, left the company at the end of May.

He thanked Del Monte Fresh for “22 wonderful years,” and talked about his immediate plans to spend more time with his family.

He also expressed appreciation for many industry friends who have recently contacted him.

“It was really heartwarming to see all the friends and the people reaching out that I’ve worked with over the past 30 years (in) produce,” he said.
