United Fresh LIVE! is coming in mid-June, and The Packer’s Tom Karst visited May 1 with John Toner, vice president of convention and industry collaboration with the United Fresh Produce Association about the trend-setting virtual event.

As a 115-year old trade association, Toner said United Fresh has had its annual meetings in world wars, the Great Depression and every other world and national event.

“The (need) of bringing the industry together to achieve common goals is even probably greater this year — to spread information, share knowledge, and build best practices,” he said. While a face-to-face meeting would have been best, COVID-19 considerations made that impossible this year.

Toner said the United Fresh LIVE! virtual platform will be very good for the industry.

“Time and place is no longer an issue; everyone can participate,” he said. “We’re pretty excited about what we’re building for June 15.”
