Family-owned wholesale produce business Kegel’s Produce of Lancaster, Pa., is celebrating its 75th year of providing fresh fruit and produce to its customers across Pennsylvania and surrounding states.

As a Women’s Business Enterprise National Council certified business, Kenny Myers, chief operating officer, attributes the wholesaler’s success to the work ethic of Kegel’s Produce President Suzanne Myers, along with the efforts of the buying and sales staff, and specialties purchasing, according to a release.

Myers says Kegel’s Produce’s ability to consistently turn over fresh products on a daily basis and provide its customers with the highest quality produce is the reason for its longevity.

Since 1986, Kegel’s Produce says it has stayed ahead of industry trends, offering an in-house fresh cut department with hundreds of customizable options.

The 114,000-square-foot facility houses an extensive selection of local produce and a modern online ordering portal. The six temperature-controlled coolers optimize shelf life of the products and the food safety program inspires customer confidence in the freshness of Kegel’s products, the company said.

Kegel’s Produce says its active membership with Produce Alliance, as well as other industry partners, help it to provide a wide range of quality produce. It also provides flexible delivery schedules and convenient pack sizes, according to the company.

The wholesale produce company employs a cloud-based system with tablets for all drivers, an electronic interface and a digital invoice system. As a member of the American Institute of Sanitation, or the ASI, Rochester Midland audits its facilities regularly for sanitation, food handling and overall cleanliness.

Kegel’s Produce has been certified as a Safe Quality Food compliant facility with team members who are HACCP certified.

The next generation of Kegel’s Produce includes KJ Myers, Kerek Myers and Koby Myers.

Kegel’s Produce says a spring open house is planned to honor management, team members and customers, as well as to celebrate 75 years of business and to look to the future.
