Richmond, Virginia-based Globalmex International Inc. is a grower-owned, high-tech greenhouse grower in central Mexico. The company’s primary crops are greenhouse tomatoes and bell peppers. The company markets under the name Magic Sun, said Anthony Otto, sales manager.

“We grow in seven greenhouses in central Mexico,” Otto said. “Starting with the seed in our nursery, we grow, harvest and ship greenhouse tomatoes and bell peppers. Our high-tech, high-elevation greenhouses offer natural sunlight and environmental conditions.”

With a foundation in tomatoes and bellpeppers, the company is expanding its product line.

We've had a good response to our new colored bell peppers. We look forward to continued expansion on that product line,” Otto said. “We also sell organic tomatoes. And this year, bell peppers and blueberries are new to the company.”

Building the local community and providing educational opportunities continue to be cornerstones in Magic Sun's values. Through its brand, the company wants to connect customers with the people and communities growing its food, according to Otto.

“Over the next five years, Magic Sun plans to leverage our own CEICKOR University, which provides research and development on growing techniques and new varieties,” Otto said.

Magic Sun’s Koppert Rapel Research and Training Center (or CEICKOR) University Farms was started in 2005 by company grower Felix Tarrats in Queretaro, Mexico. The school is growing every year in students and amenities, Otto said, with the recent additions of a soccer stadium and locker rooms. About 50 students are working on either a 2- or 4-year degree in protected agriculture, he said.
