Smurfit Kappa receives seventh consecutive award for water management

For the seventh consecutive year Smurfit Kappa, one of the global leaders in paper-based solutions, received the Pre-Treatment Partnership Award at the Environmental Excellence Awards in Fort Worth, Texas, for the proper management and adoption of water regulations within its production site.

These awards, audited by the city of Fort Worth and North Richland Hills, honor companies and organizations that serve as examples of environmental excellence. The city celebrates this event every year since 1999 and gives the grants at four seniority levels: “Star”, “Associate”, “Partnership” (that of Smurfit Kappa) and “Stewardship”.

With this award, Smurfit Kappa strengthens its commitment to sustainability and reasserts its aim to continue partnering with the city to fight climate change and ensure compliance with water resource management regulations on its production site.

Furthermore, water availability and the impact of water usage are of foremost importance to Smurfit Kappa throughout its operations worldwide. The Company has persistently made challenging commitments, such as reducing the organic content of water returned to the environment (actually, over 90% is returned to nature in good conditions), and also performs impact assessment of the water use of its paper mills once a year.

“At Smurfit Kappa, we want to drive positive changes anywhere we have the honor to operate, and this seventh-year award illustrates we’re walking on the right path in Texas. Our circular business model allows us to embed sustainability in every step, and water resource management is at the core of our strategy at Fort Worth and beyond, in our 350 production sites in 36 countries all over the world” concluded Bob Brown, Texas Packaging Director.
