ATLANTA — One year after its merger with Well-Pict, the quality and value Gem-Pack Berries has to offer has never been stronger, said Gem-Pack Berries Senior Vice President of Sales Dan Crowley at the International Fresh Produce Association’s recent Global Produce and Floral Show.
“From my point of view, it’s been a very smooth transition,” Crowley said. And it was no small task, he added, as the company’s growing operations doubled in size in all growing districts.
Heading into 2025, Gem-Pack is also positioned to expand its mixed berry program that includes strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries.
“We’re going to be one of the premier suppliers — grower-packer-shippers — of all four items in the coming years,” said Crowley. “And, we’re well positioned to generate the kind of volume that our trading partners have expected from us. They’ve raised the bar on a level of excellence, and we are answering the call.”
Gem-Pack is also moving to 100% proprietary varieties on its strawberries, raspberries and blackberries in the next two years, and on blueberries, in the next five to six years, Crowley added.
The proprietary program will allow for better berry flavor, aroma, appearance and supply, he said.
From a beneficial bug program to organic farming to 100% recyclable packaging, Gem-Pack is also investing in sustainability, said Crowley, who points to the company’s new clamshell with the label integrated into the plastic, which eliminates the need for a paper label.
