These are the weird, wise, wonderful, workable social posts you haven’t seen yet

These are the social media posts that caught our attention the week of April 5-9, curated for this Seen on Social column.

There is no shortage of content for this column when the idea is to draw from social media with all its wacky, wonderful, poignant, entertaining, educational, useful, inspirational, timely and critical posts.

Was that enough adjectives for you?

We strive for variety. If you want to be noticed, drop us a line at news@thepacker.com with “Seen on Social” in the subject line — especially you TikTok-ers.

Let’s get to it.

You had us (well, those of the female persuasion) at the title, “6 Fruit and Vegetable Hacks,” plus this video where a woman is rubbing a lemon on her gums and seconds later wielding a potato and a knife to deal with a forehead pimple.

Wait, what?!

Oh yeah, a potato can soothe inflammation and absorb oil, the reel said. Well, we knew that last part, because fries.

Not sure if we buy that rubbing an onion on stretch marks reduces their appearance.

We found even more delightful craziness with bananas, cucumbers and avocados.

Hey, if these hacks trend hard enough, it could increase produce purchases and possibly consumption. This reel has nabbed almost 290,000 views and 181 comments so far.

This 48-second video on how to use a melon baller on a watermelon was so simple, helpful and delicious-looking, that one of us at The Packer actually went out (OK, online) and bought a melon baller.

Consider us influenced.

A mere three hours after the National Watermelon Promotion Board posted this video, it got 73 likes, six comments and four shares. We expect a lot more where that came from.

Now to get the watermelon for the new kitchen gadget …

Produce Alliance LLC employs a #GoodBuyFriday hashtag that’s a fun pun, so apropos to our industry and a great idea for a regular Friday post.

The image is pretty simple, but that’s good, because the text needs the viewer’s attention the most. You get a quick update on the domestic green bean market, and then the tone transitions to an easy recipe.

We love recipes that don’t require exact measurements. The less complicated and the less intimidating a recipe is, the more likely it’s used by consumers that still need to be reached.

This flexible, affordable, simple weeknight dinner idea seems like it could come together when you don’t have much energy or brainpower left in the day.

Twitter

Twitter is great at news and highlighting hot-button issues.

Canadian Produce Marketing Association has a great mix of newsy original tweets and re-tweets. A pinned tweet at the top even shows a “breaking news” gif sharing that the April 14-16 Fresh Week conference registration is open and free.

And on an April 7 post, CPMA packed a lot of pertinent, useful details into the allotted 280 characters with the announcement of the conference’s CEO Fireside Chats series, naming names and their handles — those @insertnamehere are so important for linkability and notifications.

Everything you need to know, plus the shortened link to register, makes it easy to take action.

Registered dietitian Samar Kullab busts the myths and common “wisdom” in the health and wellness world through her posts.

Coming on the heels of the Viva Fresh Clean Eating Challenge finale after the Texas International Produce Association’s Viva Fresh Produce Expo, we love the idea of focusing on what to add, rather than subtract, from your diet to improve health.

She accompanies her post with a Lennox & Jana song, Originalton, highlighting these lyrics: “I know what you’re chasing. You can only get this feeling from inside.”

In true TikTok fashion, this young dietitian’s reel teases viewers with the idea that in the same way drugs can do cool things, vegetables can do them too — better.

She is in no way saying that you shouldn’t take doctor-prescribed medications, but she is making it seem almost like broccoli can be recreationally enjoyed. Ha.
