Twitter, other social media serve customer needs (no, really)

A mix of fun and factual — that’s our favorite cocktail for produce posts.

For the week ending May 7, we found it all. So you don’t have to.

But seriously, tell us: Are you doing crazy-cool things on your company’s social media accounts? We’d love to see and follow what you’re doing, and maybe spotlight your work in this weekly column. We’re especially interested in TikTok, the newest platform we feature. E-mail us at news@thepacker.com, and write “Attn: Amy Sowder/Seen on Social” in the subject line. gotham greens

May 4th has become a cult joke for Star Wars fans, who love to share “May the Fourth Be With You,” instead of the often uttered film enterprise’s “May the Force Be With You.”

We here at The Packer are not shy of puns. Case in point: Our podcasts, "Tip of the Iceberg" and "Lettuce Learn More."

NYC-based indoor grower Gotham Greens grabbed this green take on the phrase using green leaf and red leaf lettuce.

Complete with a Darth Vader at the top left corner, the whole picture had us chuckling.

We can all use more of that, no?

This post couldn’t come at a better time with so many produce companies struggling with the skyrocketing freight rates and lacking availability of trucks and drivers to ship their fresh produce.

The logo image may not be out of the ordinary, but BBI Logistics hits the mark with the first sentence “Are you struggling to cover your full truck load shipments this week?”

And then Steve Soller keeps it coming.

Like the way everyone wants their produce to do.

Jersey Fresh, the brand name of produce grown in New Jersey, is about to come into its own with the  season picking up this month.

So this tantalizing photo of a spring crostini is fitting. Just look at those cherry tomatoes and strawberries.

Also fitting is whose recipe they chose: Giada De Laurentiis, the Italian-American chef, cookbook author, restauranteur and Food Network TV personality.

You might’ve heard that there are a couple of Italian-Americans living in New Jersey and New York. Jersey Fresh just might’ve matched the right chef to the right audience pretty well.

Any company that wants to keep its customers during a crop’s domestic off-season will want the scoop on importing requirements.

And this post tells the news straight to you, no fluff.

FPAA, or the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, works to provide access to Mexican-grown fruits and vegetables.

The tweet shares some good news (fees aren’t rising!) in a time where key parts of the industry are charging more than ever. (We’re looking at you, Trucking. And not so fast, Labor.)

Well, there’s still a picture of pretty produce. That’s so easy, why not do that?

“If your broccoli bolts, that’s all right. The flowers are still pretty tasty,” says Tyler Froberg, managing director of Hope Farms Agricultural Showcase and Training Center in Houston.

Froberg’s quick reels about farming are fun yet informative, and he’s always cracking a smile with an eye twinkle.

By press time, this “Five More Gardening Facts from a Farmer” post has more than 450,000 views, 49,700 likes and 243 comments. Viewers (and readers) sure do love their lists.

Also, his account has almost 310,000 followers.

Might it have something to do with his on-camera charm, like how he says “Number faaaaahhhve,” for No. 5?

Nah, it’s probably just the helpful farming facts.
