The USDA is asking for offers from produce distributors to sell fresh apples and pears to the agency for use in school lunches and other feeding programs.

The USDA is asking for offers from produce distributors to sell fresh apples and pears to the agency for use in school lunches and other feeding programs.

More than 1 million cartons of fruit expected to be purchased, according to USDA’s 83-page document describing the offer.

The USDA said it will announce the purchase awards by Jan. 25; deliveries of the fruit are to be made between Feb. 26 and May 29 in 2024.

Nick Wiber ,at nick.wiber@usda.gov, will be the contract specialist handling the purchase, USDA said.
