USDA to purchase $30M in U.S. table grapes

The USDA will purchase U.S.-grown table grapes as part of its 2022 Food Purchase and Distribution Program, according to a news release from the California Table Grape Commission.

The USDA has announced it will spend $30 million to purchase U.S.-grown table grapes in 2022 for distribution to food banks and other food programs around the country, according to the release.

USDA purchases of U.S. grapes are planned from June through December, the release said.

The award came as a result of a formal request made by the California Table Grape Commission, the release said, and will mark the third year in a row that table grapes have been included in the federal food purchasing program.

The USDA said information regarding the planned purchase will be published on the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service’s website at www.ams.usda.gov/selling-food.
