Carrier Transicold controlled-atmosphere system for refrigerated containers, EverFresh, now has a carbon dioxide injection option to better preserve low-respiring perishables such as produce.

The CO2 can be injected into containers before ocean shipping, with more added during the trip, according to a news release.

“The option is beneficial for cherries, blueberries, grapes, papayas and other low- to moderate-respiring commodities that do not create a lot of CO2 on their own,” Jim Taeckens, senior product manager of Global Container Refrigeration for Carrier Transicold, said in the release. “This technology allows customers to better protect and extend the shelf life of high-value commodities, which is especially important.”

The system balances the oxygen/ CO2 to reduce respiration and slow natural ripening by generating nitrogen, according to the release.

EverFresh models with the new feature are available as a factory-installed option for Carrier Transicold PrimeLine refrigeration systems with the wireless Micro-Link 5 controller, according to the release.
