Robinson Fresh is focusing on its network of service centers across the U.S. to help increase supply chain efficiency and bring customers fresher perishable shipments.

The company recently opened a service center in San Bernardino, Calif., 70 miles inland from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The location is key for point-of-origin consolidation for growing regions and forward distribution hubs, according to a news release.

“Service centers are often a key component of the supply chain engine — they keep the rest of the transportation or logistics processes functioning at a rate that keeps carriers on the road for only the amount of time needed,” Craig Mack, Robinson Fresh director of service centers, said in the release.

The San Bernardino facility brings in fresh product, it is checked for quality and can be sorted and repacked to order in a temperature-controlled environment. Robinson Fresh is a division of C.H. Robinson.

“This is a critical, but often forgotten part of the cold chain,” Mack said in the release. “We have worked with everyone from juice companies and e-commerce start-ups to our traditional focus areas of grower-shippers, wholesale, retail and foodservice, because we know the nuances to keep the engine running.”
