One thing that drew me to a career in agriculture is …
Being a part of those who grow, process and distribute the food we eat. My parents both grew up on farms in Colorado, and when we moved to California, my parents wanted my brothers and me to continue to be surrounded by agriculture. Although we didn’t commercially farm, we raised sheep and had a commercial garden through 4-H.
At a small scale, it taught me the hard work and dedication required to grow the food we eat. It also gave me visibility at an early age how one small facet of the produce chain — farmers markets — worked and how consumers chose the food they ate.
One industry issue I am passionate about is …
Increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables in children. Hands down, this is the most important issue facing our industry. I’ve become more involved in work at K-12, and I see these kids developing healthy eating habits and becoming closer to the food they eat. I believe that we must prioritize this in our work and personal lives to help ensure a healthy future for our kids.
