The Alliance for Food and Farming has appointed Kate Tynan chairwoman of its board and Ian LeMay vice chairman.

Tynan is senior vice president of the Northwest Horticultural Council and LeMay is president of the California Fresh Fruit Association. They were appointed to the alliance’s positions at an early June meeting.

“Both are enthusiastic in their commitment to the AFF and its objectives and I’m excited to watch them lead this unique organization, which exists to reassure consumers about the safety of all produce and the importance of increasing consumption for better health,” outgoing alliance chairman and president of Markon Cooperative Tim York said in a news release.

Tynan joined the Northwest Hort Council in 2015 and was legislative director for former Congressman Doc Hastings, R-Wash. She has served on the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s North American Trade Committee, the U.S. Apple Association’s communications committee, and the United Fresh Produce Association Food Safety and Technology Council.

LeMay joined the CFFA in 2015 as director of member relations and communications and was promoted in 2019. Before that, he was district director for Congressman Jim Costa, D-Calif. He is a graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program.

Other appointees to the Alliance for Food and Farming management board are:

  • Jeff Cardinale, vice president of communications at the California Table Grape Commission;
  • Tracy Grondine, communications director of the U.S. Apple Association;
  • Kyla Oberman, director of marketing for California Giant Berry Farms; and
  • Kathy Stephenson, director of marketing communications, for Pear Bureau Northwest.
