Modesto, Calif.-based Ratto Bros.’ board of directors has named Geoffrey Ratto as the company’s new CEO.
Ratto succeeds Robert Engel, who stepped down in July. Ratto Bros. said Engel was instrumental in expanding the farm’s operations in Yuma, Ariz., and the launch of its packaged greens business.
“The future is very exciting because it preserves our traditions while opening the door for innovative practices that are even more sustainable and quality-driven than we have now,” Ratto said in a news release.
Ratto is a fourth-generation member of the family, which has grown vegetables for more than 120 years. The company said he brings nearly 15 years of industry experience to the role as well as in-depth knowledge of its various business divisions.
“We could not envision a better person to lead Ratto Bros.” said Tom Bryan, board member and former chief financial officer for Taylor Farms. “Geoffrey has a solid foundation for this position given his experience in the produce industry, knowledge of the operations and his deep commitment to a tradition that values workers, our land and our customers.”
Ratto held the role of sales director at Ratto Bros. for five years. He also worked as a retail service manager for Fresh Point of Central California. He earned an undergraduate degree from California State University, Stanislaus, and an MBA from Louisiana State University, Shreveport.
Ratto Bros. said its new leadership team includes Anthony Ratto as operations manager, Nick Ratto as harvest and facility manager, Andrew Ratto as sales/VA manager and Matthew Ratto in sales.
“In addition to his business acumen, Geoffrey has the intangible leadership qualities, character and people skills necessary for upholding the traditional values Ratto Bros. has exhibited for more than 100 years,” said Ray Ratto, chairman of the company’s board. “Our success has been built on integrity, trust and respect for everyone we employ and do business with.”
