USDA adds 4 to Mushroom Council

Three members will serve three-year terms, and one will serve a one-year term.

The USDA says it appointed four members to serve on the Mushroom Council. Three of the appointees will serve three-year terms through Dec. 31, 2027, and the Region 1 appointee will serve a one-year term ending Dec. 31, 2025.

Council members are nominated by their peers and are appointed by the agriculture secretary. The newly appointed members are:

  • Region 1 — Tony Stachurski of Gonzales, Texas.
  • Region 2 — Laura Matar of Toughkenamon, Pa.
  • Region 2 — Chris Alonzo of Kennett Square, Pa.
  • Region 3 — Jack Guan of Venutra, Calif.

The nine-member council represents four regions and is composed of eight domestic growers and one importer. Three domestic growers are from Region 1 (states other than California and Pennsylvania); four domestic growers are from Region 2 (Pennsylvania); one domestic grower is from Region 3 (California); and one importer represents Region 4 (all importers).
